Urgent care plays a significant role in today’s healthcare industry. When a patient is in pain or in need of immediate medical care, an urgent care clinic is a great alternative to a hospital. It is imperative for these facilities to be current and updated with technologies and processes to better serve their patient populations.
From sharing wait times to concentrating on patient convenience, technology has evolved with major positive changes within the urgent care business. The following technologies are being used across Urgent Care settings to better the patient experience:
- EHR— The healthcare industry is rapidly changing, and productivity is critical for every urgent care center. Due to the adoption of EHRs, Urgent Care facilities can enhance their office and care delivery. Having too much paperwork can cause major problems including errors and delays, so having an appropriate EHR can permit a site to go paperless and improve their processes through more efficient workflows.
- PMS— Practice management systems that are designed and operationalized for urgent care clinics are essential to run an efficient urgent care practice. An urgent care owner/administrator should not settle for an EHR or Practice management system that is not designed specifically for their needs.
- Patient Portal— Based on a recent survey, 57% of patients wait 15 minutes or less to be seen, and about 80% of all visits are completed in one hour or less. Utilizing a patient portal allows for better care effectiveness and help in reducing longer wait times by having their patients fill out demographic information and medical histories prior to walking through the door.
- iPads and Kiosks—Sometimes patients don’t begin their journey on the patient portal, by utilizing kiosks at the point of check in, patients can fill out their information and reduce lines with the front desk staff.
